For urban commuters, hours lost in congestion have long been a shared frustration. Trinova, a narrow three-wheeled electric vehicle designed by engineer Markus Scholten, is intended to combine the agility of a motorcycle with the weather protection and safety of a car. Its designers say the vehicle is meant to give commuters greater control over their time.
Trinova is designed around an automatic tilting system and a dual-motor drivetrain. The system is intended to keep the vehicle balanced and confident through sharp turns while preserving the compact dimensions of a motorcycle.
The vehicle is projected to reach a top speed of 190 km/h and produce about 175 horsepower, with each motor rated at 65 kW. Its estimated range is 160 to 220 km, and its body is 85 cm wide, with a curb weight below 340 kg.
| Specification | Estimated figure |
|---|---|
| Top speed | 190 km/h |
| Total power | About 175 hp (65 kW per motor) |
| Range | 160–220 km |
| Width | 85 cm |
| Curb weight | Under 340 kg |
Unlike conventional three-wheelers, Trinova is designed with performance as a priority. Sensors monitor speed and steering angle in real time, allowing the vehicle to lean up to 55 degrees and offering handling that the design team compares to that of a MotoGP racing machine.
The narrow 85 cm body is also intended to provide a practical advantage in jurisdictions that permit motorcycle lane splitting, such as California. The design team estimates that this capability could save commuters about 180 hours a year.
Production is scheduled to begin in late 2026, with an initial run of about 100 hand-built vehicles. The design team says the vehicle will use an aluminum space frame, a roll cage and steel-reinforced doors to protect occupants.
Beyond daily commuting, Trinova is being developed with an eye toward the Isle of Man TT, where the team hopes to demonstrate that a three-wheeled vehicle can deliver top-level performance. The project remains focused on balancing everyday usability with high-performance engineering.
